| This was the first Thanksgiving in a few years where I actually did not
have to fly home because I am home. On Thanksgiving, I did cook a
turkey once again, and it came out alright. This was the first
time I cooked a wild turkey, which definitely had more flavor. A
moist turkey is always a good one. The soup that was made with
the carcass was grawesome. Never had a soup I've made came out
that good. Too bad no one can taste it.
The day after Thanksgiving, I headed up to Boston to see a BU hockey
game on Saturday night. Oh and of course go see Monica.
Shopping was on the agenda on Saturday, which included Monica buying a
handbag she clearly did not need, but I basically cajoled her into
buying. On the other hand, I ended up buying lotions and soaps at
Bath and Body Works. And please do not ask me why. It was a
good bargain, 5 for 10 bucks. A pure steal. But the most
expensive item I bought was the iPod. Yes, I am 5 years late, but
I finally bought one. Now I ask myself, why didn't I buy this any
sooner?

| Election night always brings back memories from freshman year in
college. I was down in the dorm lounge watching CNN for basically
the whole night with some friends. Going around the dorm handing
out Gore/Lieberman stickers, I was optimistic for a win. Earlier
in the night, Gore was projected the winner in, you guessed
it...Florida. Then it was taken back. Let me just say that
was when the tide turned. Sometime after hours of watching, CNN
projected Bush the winner. I was pissed, going straight to bed,
and planning to miss classes because I was in mourning. But the
next morning my friends wake me up and tell me that the election was
not over, that there was going to be a recount. Not quite
grasping the situation, I got up and turned on CNN once again, and said
to myself, "What do you know? There may be a God." A few weeks
later, we all know what happened.
Tonight as projected, the Democrats have taken control of the House of
Representatives. The Senate remains to be seen. There are
two races still undecided, and one of them in Virginia, will most
likely see a recount. I'm just hoping we don't see that hoopla we
saw back in 2000. One recount and finito. No lawyers, no
court hearings, nada.

| This coming Tuesday, millions of Americans will head to the polling
places and determine if the Democrats should control power in
Congress. It sure looks as though the Democrats will at least
take control of the House. Unlike past elections, the Democrats
are the ones who are politically gaining momentum. The war in
Iraq has been on every voter's mind. Polls show that Americans
are unhappy about how the President has handled Iraq and it has
especially hurt Republican candidates as well as incumbents.
Indeed this helps Democratic candidates, but it will not do the
Democrats any good in two years if they do not have a unified exit
strategy. One congressman saying we need a timetable to leave,
and a Senator saying we do not necessarily need one is not sending the
right message.
If the Democrats were to take over Congress, how would they
govern? In the interests of Americans, I would like to see the
return of bipartisanship: a more gentle and kinder politics. But
I have to be honest, I am being too naive as this probably will not
happen. The White House has planned for a Democratic Congress,
which basically means Bush becomes a lame duck. The polarization
strategy that the radicals who have basically taken over the Republican
Party is dismissed, then we may see bipartisanship. As long as we
see the Cheneys and Roves of the world continue to rule the party, the
Democrats taking control over Congress will not do anything to change
the current political climate. If Bush wants to leave a legacy,
he may want to change his strategy by working with Democrats.
Then again, he may not be inclined to do this, but rather go to Google
Maps and look at the satellite photo of the Crawford ranch or play
games on his PlayStation.

| The baseball playoffs have begun, the
NFL season is in full stride, the NHL season starts tomorrow, and
the college hockey season begins (at least for BU begins next
weekend.) Boy, its great to be a sports fan. Yankees-Mets
Subway Series? Hope so, but probably won't happen. If it
does happen, for people who don't believe NYC is the center of the
universe, it sure will be if a Subway Series becomes reality.
